How Much Do You Budget For The Market/Store?

January 3, 2013 | 6 Comments

I was cleaning out my purse the other day and came across an old grocery store receipt from November (I love large purses and it just keeps getting heavier! I try to empty it out, but then I’m like oh I need everything in there, lol, a mess).

Anyways, I tend to do my shopping a month at a time, I don’t really like stuff sitting in the freezer, dried goods, I can manage. However, I tend to budget $100 – $150 per monthly trip just for the African store and this doesn’t include things like bread, eggs etc, just African store essentials. That amount comes to about £62 – £92 and N15 000 – N23 000 in British Pounds and Nigerian Naira respectively.

Bringing me to ask, how much do you typically set aside for your trips to the market and how often do you shop?

Well since I discovered ur website, I spend about $300 on groceries a month. And there is just two mouths to feed oh. Lol. I shop weekly. Darn. I really need to stop with all the cooking. But thanks again for this website. It has been such a blessing

      Hey Ugo!

Lol, well, hey, that’s good news, money better spent on cooking than eating out! Have you tried shopping monthly? Some things might still remain weekly, but I find it more cost effective to shop monthly. Stop with the cooking? Oh no, no, no!

You’re most welcome, I’m glad it’s been helpful to you. Have a great week ahead!

Yeah. I shop monthly for african store essentials and meat. Then I buy other things weekly. I just need to reduce the cooking. Lol. But u are right it saves on eating out

    • Yetunde says:

      Don’t reduce the cooking!!!

Hmmm….. Between 2 mouths… $400 on a good month – we buy in bulk… have a lot of things in the freezer…. still go past the $400 most months gan… lol… We eat mostly organic though – so our bill is typically more expensive… We generally spend $100 on meats a month, $100/month in african store and $50 per week on everything else….

    • Yetunde says:

Yay! I love that you eat organic, when I write about organic stuff, the responses are few and far between, lol, so that’s good to know. I’ve considered getting a deep freezer, but I don’t like to keep things frozen for too long.

Seems decent enough for a monthly grocery bill, more so if you’re purchasing organic.

      Thanks for sharing!
