Welcome to Cupcake Month on AvartsyCooking!

It started out as somewhat of a joke on my first ever cupcake post, where I asked if readers would like to know more about cupcakes and I’d devote a whole month to nothing but cupcakes; so 31 days of cupcakes: everything you need to know about making and decorating cupcakes!

I got a couple of ‘yes’ responses and ran with it (I would’ve done it anyway even if I got no responses!). Cakes (and baking in general) have always been one of my challenges; with baking, you have to follow specific amounts a recipe calls for, otherwise your final result will end up not coming out as it should. With cooking on the other hand, a little extra or less of an ingredient doesn’t usually make such a huge difference. Don’t get me wrong now, no salt in a soup dish, will make it hard to enjoy, but you can modify that soup by re-heating or re-purposing it and adding salt at another stage.

If you baked a cake and neglected to add say baking powder or baking soda, you could end up with a cake that won’t rise. How do you re-purpose that cake? You can’t!

Anyways, cupcake month has been a learning experience for me and I’ve been reading up and learning from the resident baker in my family, my mom and this whole month of August is dedicated to me sharing what I’ve learned so far. I’m still learning, but I think I’m in a better place than when I first started.

To make the series easy to follow and understand, I decided to break down the posts into 8 categories dealing with the structure and anatomy of a cupcake.

Come, let’s learn together!
