Launching Soon!: Avartsy.com

A while back, I got an idea to start a website that focused on reviews of Nigerian restaurants. Understandably, there are other review sites out there, but reviews of Nigerian restaurants usually get lost in the mix and they’re often written by people not familiar with the food, thus giving poor reviews due to them not really knowing what to expect. Even when the restaurants are reviewed by Nigerians or Africans in general, their reviews are somehow lost in the fray.
I was initially going to have the site focus on Nigerian Restaurant Reviews, but I spoke with a Liberian friend of mine and I guess he felt left out, lol, so he queried me on why I didn’t have it focus on African Restaurants in general. At first, I rallied against the idea, telling him I wasn’t too familiar with food from other African countries to be able to set the site up the way I would like, but after some more thought, I decided to go for it.
Long story short, there is a lot involved in the site whilst it’s being developed and I will need your support now more than ever. So, the next time you pop into a Nigerian or African restaurant, please keep your experience(s) at that place in mind to post your review(s) when the site does go live.
I can’t say for sure when the site will go live, but I do know it will be sometime next month, in September October November December. Sidenote: avartsy.com just shows a ‘coming soon’ page, nothing there yet. Excited yet?! I know I am :)
Update 2/5/12:
The site development is taking a lot longer than anticipated because there is so much going into the site for you all!!
Launch has now been extended till late May. Please stay tuned and major apologies for the delays. I promise the launch will be well worth the wait.

I -cannot -wait, I hope the reviews will include services cos I am looking for a restaurant here in Naija that will serve great meal, with excellent presentation and greeeeeat service. So, yeah I can’t wait :D
Amina!!!
How you dey? Longest time! I need to get my hands on one of your bags, we totally need to make that happen! Super excited that you’re excited about the new site. I for one can’t wait for it to launch, but everything has to be in place before it goes live. Stay tuned!
That’s a very good idea! With real people writing these reviews, it will definitely make the restaurants up their game. And I am sure they will thank you for this because an honest review will only help them get better in this competitive market.
Good job and good luck in your new venture! I hope AvartsyCooking will not be left in the back burner when Avartsy goes live! ;)
Hey Flo!
Yes indeed! Thank you!! Oh no,lai lai, AC is my baby, so it will still be nurtured, I just have to get better with time management!
Where are these Nigerian restaurants located? lol I’ve been to Ethiopian restaurants and I’ve seen Ghanian and West African restaurants. I haven’t seen a Nigerian restaurant before.
Hey Mel!
What?! None in your area? In Chicago, there a number of them, along with Ethiopian and Ghanaian restaurants. Not to worry, when the site launches next month, hopefully, you should be able to locate some in your city!
Thank you for keeping your site going, and I am looking forward to your new site. I’m an American girl engaged to a Nigerian-American man. We both love to cook, and while he wasn’t raised on a lot of Nigerian food or customs, we have had so much fun surprising his family and friends with your recipes. Keep up the good work!
