AvartsyCooking is Two Years Old!

My goodness! How time flies when you’re having fun! To think that on this day in 2008, I started a cooking/food blog is very surprising for me. I always say that when I started the blog, I really just started it because I loved to cook and figured it would be cool to take and post photos of what I made. It was a very random, spur of the moment type thing, nothing special prompted me to start a food blog.
When I started it, I didn’t even know what my vision for it was, I just started it and in the process, its shown (and is still showing!) me where to take it. I had no expectations when I started the blog and most definitely didn’t expect it to morph into what it’s now become. The blog is now an integral part of my life and almost every waking moment is spent thinking/plotting on how to improve the site, my posts and things of that nature.
I truly, honestly enjoy cooking and taking photos, blogging and of course, interacting with the readers. It’s so immensely touching to me when a reader goes out of their way to leave a comment or send me a email and more especially so when they’re thanking me for a particular or telling me how the recipe was a success when they made it. Those of you that send me emails about how you have the site open on your laptop and take it to the kitchen to cook, I love that! Those that take their laptops to their store and open up the site to know what ingredients to get, ugh, loveee! I love getting those and I always call my mum and sisters to tell them!
That said, I’m a really, super, intensely private person and sometimes I wish I wasn’t so I could share more about me. I mean I don’t even have a personal facebook profile! In that same vein, I’ve been blogging for two years now and never put a photo of me up because I just wasn’t comfortable with having my photo ‘out there,’ but I did include one of me in the collage! Very random for me, I might edit it out later though, so look while you can, lol.
It’s always mind boggling to me when I check my stats and see that there are readers from so many different countries. I’m always like wow, so many people are reading my words, wow… just wow. I really do appreciate everyone that reads, whether or not you leave a comment and I don’t take it for granted. Sometimes I wish I could organize a meet-up for all readers and cook a big feast and just chat, that would be fun, but the feasibility is just not there.
I wish I could say an individual thank you to each of you, but again, how feasible is that?! AvartsyCooking is still in its infancy and as it continues to grow, I hope to carry all readers along with me. Some have asked about me publishing a cookbook and it’s something I’ve thought about and will do, but I don’t want it to be rushed and done shoddily. As detailed as the recipes are on the blog, that’s how I’d like to have them in a book, so I have to figure out the logistics of that along with everything else. Don’t worry though, as soon as I start working on it, I’ll be sure to share :)
In the New Year, I hope to start having giveaways (for all readers worldwide) as it seems that might be the best way to show appreciation to all of you. Thank You so much from the bottom of heart (and my tippy toes!) for being readers, whether old or new, you are very much appreciated and I’m always grateful for your readership.
Side Note: I actually wanted to cook a small feast (assorted & orisirisi) and use those photos instead of a collage, but the lazy-bug got me! My birthday is coming up next month, so I think I’ll do that then!

Hey Azuka!
Thank you!! Lol, no ‘special’ recipe for today o, I was going to make something, but never got round to it. I’ll make it up though ;)
Happy Birthday to Avartsy and to you! I came across your website last year when I moved to another state for grad school and there was no dining hall or parents to depend on. When hunger wan kill me die, I found your site and have been in love since then.
Thank you very much for the time you take to put up recipes and pictures (trust me, I understand, I love cooking and share my photos on facebook and that takes me months to put up, talk less of putting up pictures and recipes…so thanks for taking the time).
I understand the privacy (which is why this is my second comment on the website), but thanks for letting us finally see your face! It’s beautiful
P.S. I’ve always wanted to know what “Avartsy” meant.
Hi Bolanle!
Thank you so much for the kind words!! Omg, I know what that feels like, no one to cook for you in school; either eat out or learn by force, lol. Yay though, that you’re finding the site helpful :)
I actually thought to include that in the post, but decided not to at the last minute, but Avartsy is simply an acronym I created using the first name of my family (parents, sisters, brother and myself), the Y, of course, standing for Yetunde.
Thank you for being a reader!
congratulations Yetunde and happy birthday to AvartsyCooking. I wish you and this blog so much more success to come, cant wait to see all the other things you have planned for this blog. Thanks for sharing a pic of yourself too ..the makeup junkie in me wants to ask you whats on your eyes and lip.. very pretty pic!
Hey lady!
Thank you SO much, you have been around for a minute now, so an even extra thanks for you :) Ahh, two makeup junkies, on my eyes, NYX and Smashbox shadows and lips, I honestly can’t remember, but I used a lipstick and NYX gloss.

Hi Sarah!
Aww, you did?! Yay! We welcome you with open e-arms!! ;) Thank you, thank you & thank you!!!
Hope to see you around more!
I love the way you write out your recipes. I have a question in regards to using these recipes. In my church’s magazine, we have a section designated for Nigerian recipes and I would like to know if we can use the recipes in the magazine. I don’t want to step on anyone’s toes. I will admit that for our Winter issue, we used your recipes and I wasn’t told until after that that could be illegal especially if I didn’t receive your permission. So if you can, please let me know the terms of usage. I really do love your recipes. It has helped a girl like me who has burned many a pot of water. Thanks again.
Hi Tofunmi!
Thank you so much, I appreciate it! (Will send you an email regarding the usage part)

Hi!!
Thank you! Hope you enjoy when you try!
hello.. love your blog. Confession: I’m a guy and i hardly ever cook. Now i’m in college and i realize that i’ve been wasting all my money on chinese and McDonald’s, so one day i decided to cook stew and i asked my sis for the recipe. she sent me this link and i actually cooked smoked turkey stew…haha me that could hardly boil rice before..lol. That’s about all I know how to cook right now so I’m cooking it again as I’m typing. Hopefully I’ll get off my lazy behind and learn some more recipes.
Thanks
Hey Jay!
Thank you! Oh wow, big step for you, yay!!! Congrats for that ;) Let me know how the other recipes you try go!
Hope to see you around more!
Yetee,
I just stumbled on this page while looking for “advanced” eforiro recipe. Good to know that this blog is two years old. Congratulations and happy birthday in advance. You look as pretty as your recipes (I have really wanted to see who does these cooking).
Keep up the good job! I am glad it makes you happy (kind of fulfilling a dream by helping many women to fulfill their dream of being a woman).
Do you honor invitations?
Again, where do you buy your assorted- roundabout, towel and all the mede medes. Lol! There are always questions to ask whenever I visit your blog.
Hey Ada!
Aww, thank you so much! :) What kind of invitations did you have in mind?
I usually get assorted meat from the African store, it’s actually a Hispanic store that sells a lot of African food items as well. Lol, ask away, I don’t mind questions!
Child naming, wedding and all sorts. I sure will always invite you even if you do not honor them.
Aww, thank you :)
I have been battling with how to make a perfect meat pie for so long.It such a relief getting the recipe and stepby step instruction here. You are doing a great job wishing you success all round…Its really a good hobby to cook.I love it too! Congratulation on your aniversary
